Gameplay

Team up with three friends to battle Dr. Doom’s forces in Sega's Spider-Man: The Videogame (World), released in 1991. This cooperative platform and scrolling fighter allows players to choose from four Marvel heroes: Spider-Man, Black Cat, Hawkeye, or Sub-Mariner. Each character possesses a unique ability – Spider-Man uses his webs, Black Cat has a grappling hook, Hawkeye fires arrows, and the Sub-Mariner utilizes hydro-electric charges – as they navigate through four distinct levels teeming with villains like Venom, The Lizard, and The Green Goblin. Gameplay alternates between detailed scrolling action and wider, four-way platforming sections where the camera zooms out to reveal a larger playing field. Throughout their mission, players confront a roster of familiar foes, ultimately facing Dr. Doom himself at the end of the fourth level. The game runs on Sega’s System 32 hardware and utilizes some remixed music from an earlier Sega arcade title. Up to four players can simultaneously join the fight using eight-way joysticks and two buttons to control their chosen hero, working together to overcome the challenges presented by Dr. Doom's escalating schemes.
