Spiders (set 1)
Sigma Enterprises Inc. • 1981

In Spiders, released in 1981 by Sigma Enterprises Inc., two players work cooperatively to defend their ship against a relentless onslaught of arachnids and an ever-expanding web. Players maneuver their spacecraft using a joystick or button controls, firing at the encroaching spiderweb and the spiders themselves before they reach the bottom of the screen. Failure to do so results in the destruction of the player's ship. The game features escalating difficulty as players progress through levels, with each presenting new challenges. Adding an unusual element to the action are intermittent appearances of a woman’s face on-screen, displaying various expressions. Clever players can maximize their score by targeting special “white spiders” that appear at the end of each level; these are worth increasingly high point values as gameplay advances. A bootleg version of Spiders, known as Spinner, also exists.
