Spectrum 2000 (vertical, Korea)
Yona Tech • 2000
Also known as: Fire Hawk

Take to the skies in Spectrum 2000, a fast-paced vertical shooter from Yona Tech released in 2000. Players control one of five distinct jets, each possessing unique attributes and weaponry, battling through challenging missions with both single-player and cooperative options available. As you progress, collecting power-ups transforms your chosen jet into increasingly powerful forms, allowing you to overcome waves of enemies and formidable bosses. The game features classic shooter mechanics; use the A button to fire and the B button to deploy bombs as you navigate scrolling environments. Spectrum 2000 utilizes a Motorola 68000 processor for its gameplay and dual OKI6295 sound chips for audio, creating an immersive experience. An interesting detail: the music heard on the jet selection screen is borrowed from the original SNK Neo-Geo title Andro Dunos. A Korean arcade release, Spectrum 2000 also appeared internationally as Fire Hawk and features a development team including director James Park and R&D manager Cho Nam Jun. Test mode can be accessed by holding down Button 1 at startup, providing an opportunity to examine the game’s inner workings.
