Space Position is a two-player racing game released in Japan in 1986 by Sega, developed in collaboration with Nasco. Players control futuristic vehicles navigating a series of abstract courses viewed from a top-down perspective. Using eight-way joysticks and action buttons, racers compete to achieve the fastest times across these challenging tracks, maneuvering around obstacles and attempting to outpace their opponent. The game’s visual style emphasizes clean lines and geometric shapes rather than realistic environments, creating a unique aesthetic for its time. Two Yamaha YM2203 sound chips provide the audio accompaniment as players race against each other. The NEC D317-0005 (Z80) CPU powers the main gameplay while another Z80 chip handles the sound effects. Space Position offers a straightforward, competitive racing experience for up to two players, emphasizing quick reflexes and strategic course navigation within its distinctive visual design.
