Space Seeker
Taito Corporation • 1981

Pilot your spacecraft through asteroid fields and enemy formations in Space Seeker, a two-player flying shooter released by Taito Corporation in 1981. Players maneuver their ships using an eight-way joystick to navigate a first-person perspective view of space, dodging obstacles while engaging approaching adversaries. The game features a cooperative mode allowing for simultaneous play with a second player, sharing the challenge of traversing the cosmic landscape. Space Seeker runs on Taito’s SJ System hardware and was initially launched in Japan during October of 1981. A cocktail table version titled “T.T Space Seeker” was also produced, providing an alternative cabinet configuration for gameplay. Each player utilizes a joystick to direct their ship and two buttons for actions within the game. The game’s design lends itself to both competitive and cooperative experiences as players work together to survive the dangers that lie ahead in this early example of the space shooter genre.
