Gameplay

Space Fortress is a two-player shooter released in 1981 by Century Electronics and running on their CVS hardware. Players assume control of spacecraft navigating a series of interconnected chambers within a large, enclosed structure. Using an eight-way joystick and two buttons for firing, each player works independently to target and destroy various obstacles and enemies encountered throughout the fortress’s interior. The game presents a unique visual style with its focus on internal architecture rather than traditional outer space environments. Cooperative play is possible as players can assist one another in clearing pathways or defeating particularly challenging threats within the levels. Space Fortress was later ported to the Bally Astrocade console system. This shooter offers a straightforward, action-oriented experience for up to two simultaneous players and represents an example of Century Electronics’ CVS board game releases from the early 1980s.
