S.O.S.
Terminal • 198?

A lone Russian cosmonaut finds himself thrust into action in S.O.S., a one-player platform and scrolling shooter from Terminal. After receiving a distress signal from his crew's spacecraft, which has fallen under attack by space pirates, the player must descend their own ship towards the planet’s surface to intervene. Controlling the cosmonaut, you navigate a series of challenging environments, utilizing both jumping and shooting abilities to overcome obstacles and enemy forces. Gameplay involves carefully timed jumps across platforms while simultaneously engaging hostile entities with ranged attacks. The game presents a unique visual style within its 256-color palette, running on Terminal’s custom TIA-MC-1 hardware. A second button allows for aiming assistance when facing certain challenges, such as the blue ball formations encountered in one level. S.O.S. represents a notable piece of arcade history, originating from the former USSR and developed by what would later become EXTREMA-Ukraine. The game’s distinctive design and limited distribution make it a rare find for those seeking unusual examples of platforming action.
