Solitary Fighter (World)
Taito Corporation Japan • 1991

Six contestants enter an underground fighting competition for prize money in Taito’s Solitary Fighter, released in 1991. Players choose from a roster of street toughs and face off against each other in one-on-one battles using an eight-way joystick and three attack buttons to punch, jump, and kick their opponents. Some stages feature throwable weapons that can be incorporated into the fight. Solitary Fighter shares similarities with Taito’s earlier Violence Fight, featuring updated visuals and user interface elements. A unique gameplay quirk involves a mysterious woman who occasionally appears during matches; she carries a knife and will randomly attack either fighter before disappearing, but can also be engaged as an enemy herself. The game runs on Taito's F2 System hardware and offers a straightforward versus experience for two players seeking a quick and engaging fighting challenge.
