Gameplay

Sky Smasher is a two-player vertical scrolling shooter released by Nihon System in 1990. Players control aircraft and navigate through increasingly challenging environments, battling waves of enemies while attempting to destroy structures positioned throughout each level. The game utilizes an 8-way joystick for movement and two buttons for action, requiring precise control as players dodge projectiles and maneuver around obstacles. Developed with contributions from TAD Corporation under the direction of game designer Iwao Fushiki, Sky Smasher features a soundtrack driven by both a Zilog Z80 processor and a Yamaha YM3812 sound chip alongside an OKI6295. The Motorola 68000 CPU powers the main gameplay. Released in December of 1990, it presents players with a visually dynamic experience as they work together to overcome the game’s escalating challenges.
