Sky Diver
Atari • 1978

Sky Diver challenges players to skillfully guide their parachutist toward a shrinking landing zone. As each player descends, the area where a successful landing can be made grows smaller, offering increasingly higher point rewards for daring delays in deploying the parachute. However, waiting too long means facing the inevitable pull of gravity and risking an unsuccessful splashdown. The game progresses with each round, lowering the altitude and increasing the difficulty. A unique feature sets Sky Diver apart: successfully landing earns players letters that accumulate below their score. By collecting all the letters needed to spell "SkyDiver," a reward—such as extra lives or bonus points—can be earned based on specific game settings. The illuminated letters behind the marquee flash sequentially at the start of play, adding a visual element to this competitive sporting challenge. This two-player arcade game, released in 1978 by Atari, combines skill and risk management with an engaging letter collection mechanic, offering players a straightforward yet compelling gameplay experience. Players use a two-way joystick to control their descent and timing.
