Shoei • 1982

Defend your city in Sky Army, a cooperative vertical shooter released by Shoei in 1982. As pilots of red helicopters, two players work together to navigate enemy territory and accomplish critical objectives. The gameplay involves bombing bridges under construction, eliminating waves of blue helicopters and other aircraft, and eventually assisting in the building and defense of a vital bridge essential for launching an offensive against the opposition. Players will face challenges ranging from intense shellfire to patrolling submarines as they progress through expansive areas. Controlling their helicopters with eight-way joysticks, each player utilizes multiple buttons to manage weaponry and maneuvering during the action. The game’s vertical screen displays detailed graphics rendered in a palette of 32 colors, powered by a Zilog Z80 processor and General Instrument AY8910 sound chip. Sky Army provides a fast-paced shared experience as players strive to secure victory through coordinated aerial combat.
