Silent Dragon (World)
Taito Corporation Japan • 1992

Silent Dragon is a fast-paced fighting game released in 1992 by Taito Corporation. Up to four players simultaneously battle through stages filled with gangs and formidable bosses, utilizing a unique 2.5D perspective that allows for depth within the gameplay. Players select from a cast of characters designed by a team including Sakai and Chida, each facing off against increasingly challenging opponents in an effort to dismantle an evil organization. The game's combat focuses on close-quarters brawling with straightforward controls—an 8-way joystick and three buttons—allowing for accessible yet engaging gameplay. A mid-game boss encounter pays homage to a character from the manga Hokuto no Ken, adding a subtle nod to other works within Japanese pop culture. Developed by East Technology, whose copyright appears on the game’s circuit board, Silent Dragon delivers an energetic and visually vibrant arcade experience. The soundtrack was composed by T. Noaki with sound effects created by both Noaki and Tsuda. The game runs on Taito's B System hardware and features a palette of over four thousand colors displayed at a resolution of 320x224 pixels, all running at sixty frames per second.
