Side by Side (Ver 3.0 OK)
Taito • 1996

Taito’s Side by Side puts players in the driver's seat for a high-speed chase across detailed Japanese roadways. Released in 1996, this single-player driving game utilizes a distinctive "chase view" perspective, placing the player behind their vehicle as they pursue fleeing opponents through twisting city streets and scenic countryside routes. The gameplay focuses on maintaining speed while navigating sharp turns and avoiding obstacles to stay hot on the tail of the getaway car. The JC System hardware delivers vibrant graphics and an energetic soundtrack driven by the Ensoniq ES5505 sound chip. Side by Side spawned a sequel and a PlayStation title, Side By Side Special, expanding the racing experience beyond the arcade. A hidden course can be accessed by performing a specific action during gameplay: holding the view button while inserting another coin. Multiple programmers and artists contributed to the game's development, showcasing Taito’s commitment to detailed environments and dynamic vehicle modeling within this driving pursuit title.
