Namco • 1990

In Steel Gunner (Rev B), players take on the roles of Cliff and Garcia, officers within the Neo Arc Police Department's counter-terrorist unit. A radical group known as S.T.U.R.M. has seized a quantum physicist and his assistant to build a devastating war machine, and it falls to these two agents to stop them and their leader, Gatse Bernard. Using light guns, players target enemies and obstacles across various stages within the city of Neo Arc, battling through waves of adversaries while attempting to rescue hostages. The game utilizes Namco System 2 hardware, delivering detailed visuals and a memorable soundtrack that was even released on limited edition album. Steel Gunner is a two-player cooperative experience, demanding teamwork and precision aiming to succeed against the escalating threat posed by S.T.U.R.M.. The Neo Arc PD’s name cleverly references Newark, New Jersey, hinting at the game's design inspiration. This title launched a series with Steel Gunner 2 following in 1992, and showcases contributions from a team of programmers, artists, and designers who brought this action-packed shooter to life.
