Gameplay

Senjyo is a two-player shooter released in 1983 by Tehkan. Players assume control of fixed turrets mounted on tanks and must defend against waves of approaching alien enemies. Gameplay centers around aiming with a crosshair and firing to eliminate these threats, progressing through stages once a sufficient number have been destroyed. Originally distributed as a cocktail table arcade cabinet, Senjyo provides a unique cooperative experience for two players simultaneously. The game’s soundtrack was composed by Shinichi Sakamoto, marking his debut as a music programmer. Utilizing Zilog Z80 processors and Texas Instruments SN76496 sound chips, the audio contributes to an immersive defensive battle against the alien invaders. Senjyo's title translates from Japanese to "Battlefield," reflecting its core gameplay loop of relentless combat. Controlling your turret utilizes an eight-way joystick and a single button for firing; coordination between players is essential for survival as they face increasingly challenging enemy patterns.
