Gameplay

Step into feudal Japan in Sengoku, a fast-paced fighting game from SNK released in 1991. Two warriors clash to prevent the resurrection of a malevolent shogun, battling through vibrant landscapes and facing off against an array of unique adversaries. The gameplay utilizes a distinctive 2.5D perspective allowing for depth and dynamic movement during combat. Players control their chosen warrior using a joystick and three buttons: attack, jump, and a special “change” function that allows for temporary transformations into different fighters with altered abilities. Throughout the battles, collecting power-ups grants access to powerful weapons like samurai swords or holy blades, adding variety to your attacks. Look closely at the backgrounds – one level features a playful nod to SNK’s history with a Boutique Athena shop displaying an early iteration of the familiar Athena logo. Sengoku delivers straightforward fighting action and a captivating glimpse into Japanese folklore, all powered by the advanced Neo-Geo MVS hardware.
