Also known as: Sea Invasion

Scramble is a two-player horizontal scrolling shooter released by Konami in 1981. Players pilot a spaceship through six increasingly challenging levels filled with enemy installations and airborne threats, aiming to destroy an enemy base at the end of each stage. The game features a unique refueling mechanic; players must bomb fuel tanks scattered throughout the levels to replenish their ship's fuel gauge, which constantly depletes as they fly. Controlling the spacecraft involves an eight-way joystick for movement and two buttons: one fires a forward-facing laser, while the other drops bombs to target ground-based enemies and collect crucial fuel. Success depends on balancing aggressive attacks with careful resource management – running out of fuel means certain destruction. This pioneering title was the first multi-level shooter and introduced a key element that would become commonplace in future arcade games. The Scramble cabinet, easily recognized by its angled monitor and marquee, features a distinctive aluminum control panel designed for both left-handed and right-handed players. Although visually simple with basic painted sideart, it established a hardware foundation used in later Konami titles and spawned several bootleg variations showcasing the game's accessible architecture.
