Gameplay

Samurai Shodown IV - Amakusa's Revenge, released in 1996 from SNK, continues the weapon-based fighting series with a cast of seventeen selectable characters and two boss encounters. Players engage in one-on-one battles using an eight-way joystick to control movement and four buttons to execute light, medium, strong attacks, and kicks. This installment introduced several changes to the established gameplay, including the removal of aerial blocking and side-stepping maneuvers. A new "CD combo" move allows for unique attack sequences, and a self-sacrifice mechanic lets players start rounds with a full rage gauge if they choose to forfeit the previous one. Returning characters like Charlotte and Jubei Yagyu share the roster with newcomers Kazuki and Sogetsu Kazama, brothers locked in conflict and representing fire and water jutsu respectively.
