Ryu Jin is a two-player vertical scrolling shooter released by Taito in 1993. Players pilot one of several fighter craft through increasingly challenging levels filled with enemy formations and powerful bosses. The game's title translates from Japanese to "Dragon God," hinting at the mythical themes present within its visuals and gameplay. As players ascend, they utilize an eight-way joystick for movement and three buttons for firing standard shots and deploying special attacks unique to each selectable fighter. These special abilities range from fiery bomb blasts to electrical volt attacks, providing tactical options against diverse enemy types. The game runs on Taito's B System hardware and features a soundtrack driven by a Yamaha YM2610 sound chip. Ryu Jin offers cooperative gameplay for two players, allowing friends to tackle the vertical onslaught together. Programmed by a team including T. Kaki and T. Kim!!, with graphics designed by K. Sakai and others, this shoot 'em up presents a fast-paced experience focused on skillful maneuvering and strategic use of special weapons.
