R-Type Leo (World)
Irem • 1992

In R-Type Leo, players pilot advanced R-9 Leo craft in a frantic horizontal scrolling shooter, continuing the legacy of Irem's classic series. Mankind has embarked on "Project Paradise," constructing an artificial planet called Eden, but disaster strikes when its control system malfunctions and turns against its creators. As a team of two, you must navigate six challenging stages to thwart this automated rebellion. This installment introduces significant gameplay changes compared to previous R-Type games. The familiar Force Pod and Wave Cannon are replaced with new weaponry: "Force Bits," which can fire in both directions, and the "Bit Shot"—a detachable projectile that recharges when recalled to your ship. Mastering these innovative tools is key to overcoming increasingly difficult enemy formations and environmental hazards. R-Type Leo marks the first game in the series to support cooperative two-player action, allowing friends to join forces against Major's robotic onslaught. Experience a fresh take on the R-Type formula with this intense and visually detailed arcade shooter.
