Gameplay

Royal Mahjong is a two-player tabletop arcade game released in Japan by Nichibutsu in 1981. Players engage in a digital adaptation of the classic Chinese tile matching game, mahjong. Two players face off against each other, strategically arranging and discarding tiles to create sets and ultimately clear their hand. The gameplay involves careful observation and planning as players attempt to outmaneuver their opponent by forming valid combinations faster than they can. Successfully completing sequences and pairs of tiles allows for point accumulation, with the ultimate goal being to be the first player to empty their rack of all tiles. Royal Mahjong offers a compact and accessible introduction to the complexities of mahjong within an arcade setting, providing a unique blend of strategy and skill-based gameplay for two players simultaneously.
