Rage of the Dragons (NGM-2640?)
Evoga / Playmore • 2002

Rage of the Dragons is a head-to-head fighting game released in 2002 for Neo Geo arcade systems by Evoga and Playmore. Featuring fourteen selectable characters alongside hidden sub-boss Abubo and final boss Johann, the game pays homage to classic side-scrolling beat ‘em ups like Double Dragon, with character names and visual cues drawing inspiration from that series' cast. Two players engage in intense battles using an eight-way joystick and four attack buttons corresponding to weak and strong punches and kicks. The gameplay emphasizes team-up attacks, which reward players with higher scores and rankings upon victory. Stages range from a bustling nightclub—a nod to one of the game’s development studios—to a parking lot displaying intentionally humorous Engrish text on a television screen. Unique characters Pupa Salgueiro and Cassandra Murata distinguish themselves with two super moves each. A challenging experience awaits those facing Johann, the final boss, who is notably immune to dizzying attacks. The game tracks player performance after each fight, assigning ranks accompanied by bonus points ranging from 5,000 to a substantial 100,000 for exceptional play.
