Gameplay

Published in 1979 from Kansai Seiki Seisakusho Co., Rotary Fighter is a two-player vertical shooter that draws clear inspiration from Space Invaders. Players utilize two-way joysticks and single buttons to control their ships and maneuver across the screen, targeting descending formations of enemies. The game presents a simple but engaging challenge as players attempt to destroy the oncoming invaders while avoiding their retaliatory fire. Rotary Fighter’s visuals are stark, utilizing a limited color palette on a 256x256 pixel display that refreshes at 60Hz. An 8085A processor powers the gameplay, alongside a SN76477 sound chip to produce accompanying audio. The game's design reflects an era when arcade technology was still evolving and developers were exploring new ways to adapt popular concepts. The title would later be followed by two sequels, Rotary Fighter DX and Rotary Fighter III, though details regarding their release dates are currently unknown. Sadly, Kansai Seiki Seisakusho Co., operating as KASCO, ceased operations in 1980, a consequence of the declining popularity following the Space Invaders craze.
