Robo Wres 2001 is a two-player wrestling game released in 1986 by Sanritsu and Sega. Players control robotic wrestlers in one-on-one matches using an eight-way joystick and three buttons to execute moves, attempting to pin their opponent. The game features distinct robot characters battling it out with digitized sprites on the screen. Running on Sega System 2 hardware, Robo Wres 2001 utilizes a combination of sound chips for its audio presentation including Texas Instruments SN76496 and an OKI MSM5205. A dipswitch allows for minor adjustments to game settings. The “Wres” in the title is short for wrestling, indicating the core gameplay focus. Though initially released as an arcade cabinet, a port of the game was later made available on NEC PC-8801 computers in Japan.
