Step into the wacky world of Warner Bros. animation with Atari’s Road Runner (rev 2), a fast-paced platform game released in 1985. As the Road Runner, you must navigate vibrant, scrolling landscapes while evading the persistent pursuit of Wile E. Coyote. Gameplay centers around running, jumping, and carefully avoiding hazards like cannons, landmines, and perilous drops—often utilizing them to your advantage by luring the Coyote into their path. Maintaining speed is crucial, as a depleting “Seed Meter” requires you to collect scattered piles of birdseed to avoid slowing down and being caught. Successfully outrunning Wile E. Coyote earns points, but players can also trigger humorous bonus sequences like the "Tongue Bonus" by maintaining proximity and pace with your pursuer. The game’s colorful graphics and sound effects faithfully recreate the humor and energy of the classic cartoons. Road Runner originally utilized the Atari System 1 hardware, available as both an upright arcade cabinet or a conversion kit for existing games. While relatively rare in its original factory form, the conversion kit made it widely accessible to arcades. A planned graphically enhanced sequel utilizing laserdisc technology was never released beyond a prototype stage.
