Riot (NMK)
Tecmo (NMK license) • 1992

Players team up in Riot, a side-scrolling shooter from Tecmo released in 1992. Taking control of characters reminiscent of those featured in Rolling Thunder, players navigate through environments using an eight-way joystick and three buttons to perform actions like jumping, sliding, and attacking enemies. The game allows for cooperative play with two players simultaneously controlling their own character as they progress through the levels. The action unfolds from a third-person perspective, demanding precise movement and timing to overcome obstacles and hostile forces. Riot utilizes sound chips including a Yamaha YM2151 and an OKI6295, contributing to its audio experience, with music composed by Mikio Saito. Originally released in Japan, the game's title translates from Japanese to "Rolling Thunder Riot." The arcade version features a Motorola 68000 processor for gameplay alongside a Zilog Z80 processor driving the sound. Very few boards were distributed within Japan making it a relatively rare find today.
