Gameplay

Pilot a rescue helicopter in Stern Electronics’ Rescue, a fast-paced shooter released in 1982. Your mission is to pluck airmen from the ocean after they've parachuted to safety, transporting them to a nearby island while fending off relentless enemy attacks. Constant threats arise from hostile helicopters, patrolling sharks eager for a meal, and later stages introduce submarines and warships determined to thwart your efforts. The gameplay presents a unique challenge: you must carefully manage the wreckage of destroyed enemies and avoid accidentally striking falling airmen with your helicopter’s blades – both result in immediate loss. A distinctive eight-way firing system allows players to target threats in any direction, regardless of the helicopter's movement, while missiles are crucial for neutralizing larger vessels. Each stage requires rescuing a specific number of stranded airmen and delivering them safely to the designated island to progress. Rescue delivers intense aerial action and strategic decision-making in a vertical display powered by Zilog processors and General Instrument sound chips.
