Rescue Raider is a single-player shooter released by Bally Midway in 1987, marking the final game to utilize the company’s SAC-I hardware platform. Players assume control of a futuristic vehicle navigating multiple screens with the goal of uncovering hidden secrets revealed on an onscreen radar map. Movement and firing are handled separately via dual eight-way joysticks, while a single button allows cycling through three distinct special weapon types. The gameplay revolves around gathering sensitive documents to reveal what lies concealed by the radar, as well as rescuing enemy soldiers, refueling, and acquiring more powerful weaponry. Successfully completing objectives provides opportunities to improve your arsenal and progress further into the game’s unfolding narrative. Featuring graphics rendered at a resolution of 256 x 240 pixels and powered by a Motorola M6809 CPU, Rescue Raider offers a unique blend of driving and shooting action for a solitary player experience.
