Step up to the mound in Relief Pitcher, an Atari Games baseball simulation released in 1992 for two players. This arcade game allows you to experience the thrill of pitching from a unique perspective – as a relief pitcher called in to save the day. Players can choose between playing a standard baseball game or focusing solely on the intense pressure of coming into a high-stakes situation as a reliever, facing off against opponents through a series of challenging games. Using an 8-way joystick and three buttons, players control their pitches, aiming for strikes and trying to outsmart batters. The graphics display a resolution of 336 x 240 pixels with a palette of 2048 colors, accompanied by sound from the OKI6295 and YM2413 chips. The game even features voice acting by legendary baseball announcer Jack Buck, adding to the immersive experience. While initially released in arcades, Relief Pitcher later saw a port to the Nintendo Super Famicom in 1993, though an Atari Lynx prototype never materialized. Designed by Mike Hally and Peter Lipson with contributions from Mark Stephen Pierce and others, this game offers a focused baseball experience centered on the role of the relief pitcher.
