Rebound (Rev B)
Atari • 1974

Two players face off in Atari’s Rebound, a two-player adaptation of volleyball released in 1974. Each player controls a horizontal paddle at the bottom of the screen and must volley a ball back and forth over an electronic net to their opponent. The goal is simple: successfully return the ball after each hit, outmaneuvering your rival until they fail to make contact. With practice, skilled players can manipulate the angle of their returns, adding strategic depth to the gameplay. The game’s sound design features a distinct “bleep” effect that accompanies each volley, creating a sense of pace and excitement as play accelerates. Originally known as Volleyball, early arcade cabinets bear the designation “VB” on their boards, reflecting this initial title. This particular version is Revision B, identified by its Atari part number A000846. Rebound also holds significance in arcade history as the first game released under a new arrangement with Kee Games; that company later produced a similar variation called "Spike."
