Radikal Bikers (version 2.02)
Gaelco • 1998

Radikal Bikers puts players in the driver's seat—or rather, the rider’s seat—of an Italian scooter as they navigate bustling Mediterranean streets to deliver pizzas against a rival courier. Published by Gaelco in 1998, this single-player driving game tasks you with completing deliveries before time runs out and outpacing your competitor. The gameplay unfolds from a chase view as you weave through traffic, utilizing shortcuts and alternate routes across three distinct locations: Milan, Rome, and Naples. Each city presents four races, increasing in difficulty represented by progressively spicier pizza varieties—Margherita, Capricciosa, and Diabola. Scattered throughout the levels are power-ups to aid your delivery efforts, including a "Power Kick" for dispatching vehicles, a temporary speed boost ("Turbo"), point bonuses, extra time, and a random prize with the “Joker” pickup. Four selectable characters, Carlo, Gino, Nina, and Sofia, each representing different pizza parlors, are available to pilot your scooter through the urban landscape. The game’s setting is richly detailed with interactive elements like cars, fences, pedestrians, and storefronts. Radikal Bikers' unique premise and vibrant visuals—showcasing scooters from the Italian manufacturer Italjet—make for a distinctive arcade racing experience. A PlayStation port was released in Europe in 1999, while a planned Game Boy Color version never materialized beyond a prototype stage.
