Race Drivin' (cockpit, rev 5)
Atari Games • 1990
Also known as: Race Drivin' Panorama

Race Drivin' puts you in the driver’s seat of a high-performance sports car on a variety of challenging tracks. This immersive driving simulation, built with a cockpit for maximum realism, focuses on precise handling and responsiveness; the game aims to eliminate lag between your control inputs and what appears on screen, making the experience feel remarkably like controlling a real vehicle. Beyond standard racing environments, you’ll tackle the Super Stunt track featuring daring loops and jumps, and test your skills against a virtual pace car that mirrors your best lap times. The game also incorporates unique features for both solo play and competition. A "Buddy Race" mode allows one player to set a benchmark lap time which is then challenged by another racer. For head-to-head racing, two cabinets can be linked together allowing players to compete directly against each other. Several different car models are available, each with distinct handling characteristics that impact acceleration, top speed, and cornering ability—requiring players to adapt their driving style to the track and vehicle selected. A warning displayed at the start cautions players that attempting the game's stunts in real life would be dangerous, highlighting the focus on simulated thrills rather than practical application.
