Gameplay

In Pururun, two players cooperate to guide characters Pipi and Moko toward their goal across a grid filled with colorful blobs. Players manipulate the grid by linking together four or more blobs of matching colors; when linked, these blobs disappear, revealing a new color underneath. Strategic play involves exploiting this inner/outer color change mechanic to clear paths for the heroes and accelerate their progress through each stage. The game presents a unique puzzle experience that combines spatial reasoning with a touch of chain reaction strategy. Successfully linking blobs transforms the playing field in unexpected ways, creating opportunities or obstacles for players as they work together towards completing the level. The title itself is derived from Japanese onomatopoeia representing a jiggling sound, hinting at the vibrant and reactive nature of the gameplay. Developed by Metro and published by Banpresto in 1995, Pururun utilizes a Motorola 68000 processor to drive its visuals and incorporates Yamaha YM2151 and OKI6295 sound chips for its audio. The game is designed for two players using an eight-way joystick and two buttons per player, inviting collaborative puzzle solving on the arcade floor.
