Gameplay

Power Spikes II is a two-player volleyball sports game released in 1994 by Video System Co., running on SNK’s Neo-Geo MVS hardware. Part of a series that began with Super Volleyball and continued with the original Power Spikes, this title puts players in control of teams vying for points through strategic serves, spikes, and blocks. Using an 8-way joystick and two buttons, players direct their athletes across the court to return volleys and ultimately score. Gameplay revolves around mastering timing and positioning to outmaneuver your opponent. A successful serve or spike is executed by pressing the action buttons at precise moments as you guide your player with the joystick. The game features a team of volleyball players designed by a large development staff, including Takumi Matsui who served as chief designer. A prototype version of this game, known internally as “Super Volley ‘94,” also exists and is considered quite rare. Power Spikes II later saw a port to the SNK Neo-Geo CD console.
