Power Spikes (World)
Video System Co. • 1991
Also known as: Super Volley '91

Power Spikes is a two-player volleyball sports game released in 1991 by Video System Co., originally developed in Japan as Super Volley '91. Players control teams competing against opponents from around the world, executing serves, sets, and spikes to score points. The World version of the game allows selection of European and Brazilian national teams, while earlier Japanese and Korean versions featured only those respective nations' teams. Gameplay involves standard volleyball mechanics, with each team attempting to ground the ball within their opponent’s court boundaries. In the World release, a celebratory animation featuring Italian athletes briefly appears after scoring points—a nod to Italy's dominance in international volleyball during the early 1990s. Single-player mode challenges you to defeat a series of teams, including China, Japan, and the USA. The game’s two-player mode offers team selection similar to single-player for the World release, with variations in available teams for Japanese and Korean versions. Notably, players can also choose female characters when playing these earlier releases. A bootleg version was later produced by Playmark featuring similar hardware components.
