Prime Goal EX (Japan, PG1/VER.A)
Namco • 1996

Prime Goal EX is a two-player soccer game released in Japan by Namco in 1996. Players control their chosen team using an eight-way joystick and four buttons to pass, shoot, tackle, and perform special moves on the field. The gameplay focuses on fast-paced action and strategic teamwork to score goals against your opponent. Commentary throughout matches is provided by Nigel Chisholm, who adopted a deliberately American accent during recording sessions in Yokohama. Built on Namco System 11 hardware, Prime Goal EX features detailed graphics for its time and energetic music. The game's development involved a large team of programmers, artists, and sound designers working together to create an immersive soccer experience. While initially released as an arcade title, the game later received a port to the Sony PlayStation in Japan under the name "J-League Prime Goal EX." The project benefited from contributions from numerous individuals and teams, including CS D.D. staff and several key Namco personnel involved in planning, programming, and visual design.
