Power Play
Cinematronics • 1985

Power Play is a two-player soccer game released by Cinematronics in 1985. Designed for head-to-head competition, players control one member of a two-person team attempting to score against their opponent’s team. Using an eight-way joystick and three buttons, players maneuver their character across the field, kicking the ball towards the goal while simultaneously defending their own net. The game features straightforward controls and a direct competitive experience reminiscent of classic sports arcade games. Two Zilog Z80 processors power the gameplay, accompanied by sound chips that provide audio cues during matches. Developed with contributions from designers like Phil Sorger and Bob Skinner, and graphics artists such as Jerry Huber, Power Play offers a simple but engaging sporting challenge for two players simultaneously.
