Gameplay

Namco’s Pocket Racer arrived in Japan in March of 1997 and offers a unique twist on the racing genre. Players control a small vehicle navigating courses from a distinctive chase-view perspective. The single-player game utilizes a steering wheel and accelerator pedal for an immersive driving experience, requiring precise handling to stay ahead of the competition. Pocket Racer functions as a spin-off title inspired by Namco’s Ridge Racer, but with a focus on miniature cars and tight courses. While selecting a car, players can alter its size by holding down the VIEW button, switching between “pocket” and “normal” versions. The game runs on Namco System 11 hardware and features processing power derived from PlayStation technology alongside dedicated sound chips. The gameplay centers around skillful driving and maneuvering through challenging circuits, demanding both accuracy and quick reflexes to maintain a lead.
