Penguin-Kun Wars (US)
UPL • 1985

Two players face off in Penguin-Kun Wars, an unusual sports game released by UPL in 1985. Each player controls a team of penguins attempting to knock the opposing team off a series of platforms using strategically timed jumps and pushes. The gameplay revolves around anticipating your opponent's movements while carefully positioning your own penguins for maximum impact; success depends on clever maneuvering rather than brute force. The game features simple controls – a two-way joystick to direct each penguin, and a single button to initiate jumps or shoves. Developed in Japan and initially released there in June of 1985, Penguin-Kun Wars marked the beginning of a series, with a sequel later appearing on MSX computers. The distinctive sound effects are produced by two General Instrument AY8910 chips.
