Gameplay

Konami’s Pirate Ship, released in 1995, is a single-player redemption game that puts players in control of a miniature pirate vessel navigating a stormy sea. The gameplay involves skillfully maneuvering your ship through a series of mechanical waves and obstacles to collect treasure tokens. Successfully guiding the boat through the course earns points and allows players to advance to increasingly challenging levels. This interactive experience relies on physical manipulation; there are no digital controls involved. Players use a joystick and button to direct their pirate ship, attempting to avoid collisions that would reset their progress. While initially believed to be exclusive to family entertainment centers, Pirate Ship was also distributed through vendors to casinos and other businesses with established relationships with Konami. Large-scale operators could often secure discounted pricing when purchasing multiple units of the game, reflecting its appeal beyond a typical arcade setting.
