Phozon (Japan)
Namco • 1983

Phozon presents a unique puzzle experience from Namco, released in Japan in 1983. Players control a distinctive black molecule adorned with four red spikes and work cooperatively with another player to manipulate floating molecules on screen. The goal is to strategically attach these smaller shapes onto the player-controlled molecule, building a complex pattern that precisely matches a template displayed centrally. Incorrect placements can be rejected with a dedicated button, requiring careful planning and coordination between players. Adding challenge and visual flair are colorful, rotating spheres that must be avoided while assembling your molecular structure. Success depends on precise timing and communication to prevent collisions and maintain the desired shape. This unusual blend of puzzle mechanics and arcade action provides a distinctive gameplay experience for up to two players. A hidden feature can be revealed by entering a specific sequence in service mode, adding "(c) (p) 1983 NAMCO LTD." at the bottom of the screen. Music and sound effects were composed by Yuriko Keino, further enhancing the game’s atmosphere. Phozon has since been included in several Namco Museum collections for PlayStation and PC.
