Gameplay

Embark on a mythological adventure in Namco’s Phelios, a fast-paced vertical shooter released in 1988. Players assume the role of Apollo, riding his winged horse Pegasus through ancient Greece to rescue Artemis from the villainous Typhon. The gameplay involves navigating scrolling landscapes and battling waves of enemies inspired by Greek folklore, including harpies, skeletons, and goblins, culminating in challenging boss encounters. The game’s unique weapon system allows for both rapid-fire small shots and charged, more powerful fireballs. Strategic use of these attacks is key to defeating the increasingly difficult foes that stand between Apollo and his sister. Phelios supports two players simultaneously, allowing for cooperative action against Typhon's forces. Running on Namco System 2 hardware, Phelios delivers vibrant visuals and a memorable soundtrack composed by Yoshinori Kawamoto. The game was initially released in Japan in February of 1989 and later ported to the Sega Megadrive console.
