Pinball Action (set 1)
Tehkan • 1985

Pinball Action (set 1) challenges players to navigate two distinct pinball tables simultaneously in this fast-paced arcade game from Tehkan, released in 1985. Two players can compete against each other, aiming for the highest score by skillfully manipulating flippers and bumpers to keep the ball(s) in play. The gameplay involves familiar pinball mechanics; players use buttons to control their respective flippers, attempting to hit targets, activate ramps, and trigger bonus features scattered across both tables. The game utilizes two Zilog Z80 processors—one for the main game logic and another dedicated to its sound—along with three General Instrument AY8910 chips for audio. This technical setup contributes to a lively soundtrack accompanying the pinball action. Pinball Action was initially released in Japan before making its way to the United States a few months later, and it would later be included in compilations for PlayStation 2 and Xbox consoles. A sequel, Super Pinball Action, followed in 1991, expanding upon the core gameplay introduced in this original title. Tsukasa handled sound programming duties for this arcade release, contributing to its engaging audio experience.
