In Pang (World), players work cooperatively to bounce their characters across vibrant, multi-layered stages by popping colorful balloons. Developed in Japan and released in Europe in December of 1989, this two-player shooter challenges you and a friend to strategically ricochet off walls and surfaces while avoiding hazards and clearing the screen of all the buoyant obstacles. Each popped balloon sends pieces flying, demanding precise movements and coordination to survive. The game is part of a series that began with the original Japanese release known as Pomping World and continued with titles like Super Pang and Pang! 3. Mitchell published this arcade version, which has also seen ports to various home computers and consoles across Europe, including the Amstrad GX4000, Commodore Amiga, and Sony PlayStation. A bootleg version of the game appeared in 1990. While offering simple mechanics, Pang (World) rewards skillful play with increasingly challenging levels and a charming aesthetic. Its accessible gameplay made it popular, leading to numerous adaptations across different platforms throughout the early nineties and beyond.
