Pandora's Palace
Konami / Interlogic • 1984

Navigate treacherous platforms as a Roman emperor in Konami and Interlogic’s Pandora's Palace, released in 1984. Players must guide their character from the top left to the bottom right of each screen by utilizing moving platforms and poles, avoiding flames and patrolling enemies along the way. Direct contact with an enemy doesn't result in immediate defeat; instead, they can push the emperor into hazards or off edges, costing a life. Collecting bunches of grapes grants a temporary power-up – transforming the emperor’s attire from regal robes to a Roman helmet and tunic. In this state, enemies can be defeated by jumping on their heads, earning bonus points for the effort. Two players can compete simultaneously, racing each other through the increasingly challenging stages. Pandora's Palace features vertical gameplay with a resolution of 224 x 256 pixels and utilizes a palette of 32 colors. Simple controls consisting of a four-way joystick and single button allow for precise platforming maneuvers in this cooperative development from Konami and Interlogic.
