Pairs Redemption (V1.0, 10/25/94)
Strata / Incredible Technologies • 1994

Pairs Redemption is a cooperative puzzle game for two players released in 1994 by Strata and Incredible Technologies. The gameplay revolves around a memory matching mechanic played on a grid of cards—a familiar concept brought to an arcade setting. Players take turns selecting cards, hoping to find pairs that disappear from the board, revealing portions of an image underneath. Successful matches also add time to a timer and award hearts which track the players' remaining attempts; incorrect guesses deplete these hearts and reduce available time. Each stage begins with some cards revealed to provide an initial advantage, and each features two "joker" cards that can clear all matching cards when selected. The game presents eight different women, each with four increasingly revealing stages—the backgrounds are initially presented in grayscale but become full color upon successful completion of a level. Completing all stages for a woman unlocks their associated backgrounds as a reward. After completing the core levels, players unlock bonus rounds featuring multiple characters together. While designed for bar environments and commonly found in bartop cabinets, this game exists in two versions: an adult-oriented version with mature imagery and a separate kids' version utilizing cartoon fruit characters as a ticket redemption game.
