Pac-Man Plus
Namco (Midway license) • 1982

Pac-Man Plus arrived in arcades in 1982 as an upgrade kit designed for existing Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man machines. Players control two Pac-Men simultaneously, navigating familiar maze layouts with a slightly different color scheme to collect pellets and avoid the classic ghosts. While the core gameplay remains consistent—chasing after power pellets to temporarily turn the ghosts edible—Pac-Man Plus introduces unpredictable events that can drastically alter the experience. These random occurrences might include temporary invisibility for Pac-Man or the ghosts, or even a reduction in the number of active ghosts. The prize items scattered within the maze have also been altered from the original, appearing as various food and household objects like cans of soda and gift boxes, each offering different point values. Eating these prizes can affect how quickly ghosts revert to their normal, chasing forms after being eaten while powered up, adding a layer of strategic consideration for players aiming for high scores in this two-player maze chase game.
