Pac-Land (World)
Namco • 1984

Pac-Land is a vibrant, horizontally-scrolling platform game that transports players to a cartoon world inspired by the Hanna-Barbera animated series. As Pac-Man, you must guide a lost fairy back to her home in Fairyland and then return your family with skillful running and jumping. The gameplay involves navigating colorful stages filled with obstacles like water pits, quicksand traps, and of course, the relentless pursuit of Pinky, Inky, Blinky, Clyde, and Sue. Power pellets grant temporary invincibility, allowing you to turn the ghosts into vulnerable targets. Midway through your quest, the fairy bestows magical shoes, enabling Pac-Man to perform impressive sky jumps across gaps. The game is structured around “trips,” each comprised of multiple rounds that scroll both left-to-right and right-to-left, with increasing difficulty as you progress. Unique controls utilize three buttons for running and jumping, offering varied movement speeds, and some stages feature hidden shortcuts accessible through clever manipulation of the environment—like pushing cacti to reveal valuable rewards or shortcuts. With eight distinct trips totaling 32 levels, Pac-Land delivers a charming and challenging experience rooted in classic arcade gameplay.
