Operation Thunderbolt (World, rev 1)
Taito Corporation Japan • 1988

In Operation Thunderbolt, players assume the roles of special forces operatives tasked with rescuing American hostages from terrorists who have seized a passenger plane. Following up on the popular Operation Wolf, this light gun shooter plunges you into an action-packed campaign across African landscapes as you confront waves of enemy soldiers, vehicles, and dangerous projectiles like grenades and missiles. Limited ammunition and explosives must be conserved by strategically targeting supply crates throughout each stage. Unlike its predecessor, Operation Thunderbolt introduces a dynamic visual element with stages featuring 3D environments that extend directly into the screen, creating a more immersive experience. The game's narrative draws inspiration from real-world events and continues the storyline established in Operation Wolf, challenging players to overcome increasingly difficult obstacles while racing against time to secure the hostages’ safety. Two players can join forces for cooperative gameplay, adding another layer of intensity to this thrilling rescue mission.
