OOPArts is a two-player ball and paddle game created in 1992 by hack, originally developed under Sega Enterprises, Ltd. Players control paddles to deflect a bouncing ball, aiming to break apart formations of blocks presented on the screen – gameplay similar to Breakout. The title itself references “Out-of-Place Artifacts,” hinting at an experimental nature for this action game. This prototype was directed by Hideki Tamura and features programming contributions from Masaru Hatsuyama alongside a team of other developers, including Mizuho Sasa and Akiyoshi Noguchi. Graphic design work came from Motoi Saitoh and Nozomu Sakurao, with music composed by Nasu Kazumi. The game’s development involved testing by Shinobu Itoh and Takayuki Machida, overseen by producer Takato Yoshinari. Notably unreleased to the public, OOPArts represents a glimpse into Sega's internal project creation process during this era, presented through Success Corporation.
